Lauren and Isaac picked up Anton LaVey’s 1969 tome The Satanic Bible at a local thrift store and were definitely disappointed. These Satanists don’t even believe in Satan! Come for the libertarian sex orgies, stay for the teen angst-worthy poetry, we guess.
This time around, Lauren and Isaac read Greg Sestero’s The Disaster Artist, a book about making a movie that is now also a movie. We share our favorite Tommy Wiseau anecdotes and Lauren is maybe recording from inside a small, echo-y cave. Stick around at the end when we spend several minutes discussing what it would be like to have a Satan as a landlord.
ICYMI, our next book will be Greg Sestero’s The Disaster Artist: My Life inside ‘The Room’ The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made. We’re fans of trash movies around here and any insight into the mad, bizarre, awful genius behind them. We both loved the Disaster Artist movie and are pumped to read the book that inspired it. To get you pumped, here’s the scene my sister showed me in anticipation of watching The Room for the first time:
Lauren and Isaac really lay bare their relationship while examining John Gray, PhD’s 1992 classic “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.” Is it mostly just reading aloud offensive, gender essential BS? Maybe! But you’ll also learn more than you’ve ever wanted to know about the elusive Advice Bats.
As you might have guessed, we’re about to veer right into dated and incredibly sexist relationship advice from the ’90s territory. For our next episode, we’re reading John Gray, “Ph.D.”‘s massive bestseller because people are terrible, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. It’s probably going to really strengthen our communication. As in, we will both say “fuck” a lot while we talk about how much we hated it. OR will we surprise ourselves and everyone else and get something useful out of it? PROBABLY NOT, but tune in to find out anyway! And go to your local thrift store and pick up one of many old copies discarded just like the marriages they were meant to save and read along. Cheers!
