Isn’t it sports questions in that book?

Guess what, Electric Book Machine fans? We’ve chosen our next hate-read and the winner is Phil Jackson’s Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Lessons of a Hardwood Warrior. We plan to be inspired by sports and meditation and… sports? We expect Michael Jordan anecdotes, borderline(?) racist insights, hardcore cultural appropriation, and a new way of looking at basketball or whatever. Is this a man’s Eat, Pray, Love? If we’re lucky! Stay tuned.

Episode 23- Midnight in America

In this edition of Electric Book Machine, Lauren and Isaac read Jonathan W. White’s cultural history Midnight in America: Darkness, Sleep, and Dreams During the Civil War. We talk about weird dreams, superstitions, and how psychic Abraham Lincoln probably wasn’t. War is hell, but sleep deprivation might be worse!

Lauren has, like, a double concussion, so things are moving slowly this spring. More fun stuff to come from your favorite literate couple… eventually!

Next up we’ll be reading Colette Dowling’s 1981 best seller (apparently) The Cinderella Complex: Women’s Hidden Fear of Independence. Has Isaac already finished it? Maybe. Does Lauren refuse to talk about it if it doesn’t somehow involve Gus Gus? Also maybe. Hit up your local pile of trash books from the ’80s and read along and find out in our next episode!
